BIMI Explained: DNS Logo Records and Email Branding
BIMI lets a domain publish brand-indicator information in DNS. Display is controlled by participating mailbox providers and depends on provider requirements as well as supporting authentication and branding conditions.
What BIMI publishes
A BIMI TXT record can identify a logo location and, where applicable, an authority or certificate location.
The presence of a syntactically valid BIMI record does not guarantee that a mailbox provider will display the logo.
BIMI and DMARC
BIMI deployments are closely associated with authenticated mail and DMARC policy requirements imposed by participating providers.
This means diagnosing BIMI frequently requires checking DMARC as well as the BIMI record itself.
Logo hosting
The BIMI logo location should use HTTPS and the referenced asset must satisfy the format and hosting expectations applicable to the deployment.
A checker can verify observable record and URL properties but cannot guarantee provider-specific logo display.
Provider behavior
Mailbox providers ultimately decide whether and how BIMI indicators are displayed.
A DNS record therefore represents configuration evidence rather than a promise of inbox branding.
